Midlife Blogging Crisis
Just to review, I started this blog five years ago when I was up to my eyeballs in learning to love/care-for/manage Annie after her brain injury. My first post was on March 11, 2007, shortly before we brought her home from the hospital after being there 52 days.
Over these last 5 years, you got the non-Reader'sDigest version of all her medical issues stemming from Addison's Disease, the brain injury that was the result of her adrenal crisis, and the dominoes that fell as a result of the brain injury, including losing the ability to walk, talk, eat, be continent, and think. That little girl lost a lot.
Then, last year on March 25th, 2011, Annie passed away from complications of the flu, and sepsis. People might say that was the worst thing ever, her death. But I prefer to think that although it has been extremely painful for us, it was the best thing ever for her, because she now can sing, think, talk, eat and be her pretty princess self again--in heaven.
After she died, I began sharing about our grief. There were many days I didn't want to write, but it was helpful to get it out onto "paper," and my hope in telling you all that was that my experiences may be helpful to you in some way, especially if you're grieving yourself. But if not, maybe you'll file the stories away in your mind and refer to them when you experience a loss. That's my hope.
Now here we are 15 months after Annie left us, and I am at a crossroads of sorts with this blog, and my life, really. I feel like God is beginning to show me a new focus. And here are my thoughts:
1. This blog is no longer to update you about Annie.
2. It's not a blog about grief, although I may talk about that from time to time.
3. It's not a blog about Adrenal Insufficiency, although, again, I may post about that now and then.
But all of these things (and more) are part of me. And, I know that having
Addison's or some other type of adrenal insufficiency or
a special needs kid or
a chronically ill family member or
grief and
Jesus
is a part of many of your lives, too.
So, I'm working on a new blog that combines all of these topics and more, because I like discussing this stuff together with you.
Stay tuned.
