Wag More
So yesterday I was driving up our street with Andy and Naomi after having lunch with Bill at the place where David works. About halfway up the road, a little Yorkie ran in front of us and then proceeded to sniff its way from yard to yard. My first thought was "That's someone's dog, it shouldn't be out here unattended, it's going to get run over, someone should take it back to its owner." My second thought was "I'll ask Andy and Naomi to corral it and we can figure out who its owner is." My third thought, after they caught it and put it in the van was, "What the heck am I doing?"
The dog had no collar, no tags, and when I took it to the vet hospital, (I know what you're thinking...she took it to the vet--she's sunk), they couldn't find any microchip either. So then I posted signs up around our neighborhood: "Lost Dog--someone please come claim it before I spend any money on this mangy, unkempt dog," or something to that effect. And here it is Saturday night, and no one has called.
Meanwhile, I bought a collar, a leash, dog shampoo, and dog food.
The kids have already named it: Chewbacca, or Chewie for short.
Annie's not convinced about the wisdom of inviting in this new guest. Every time the dog gets close to her she gags herself.
Bill is rolling his eyes. But he took it for a walk this afternoon, so I know he's getting sucked in too.
It's an older dog. His eyes have cataracts. But he goes potty outside. He wags his tail...and he quietly sleeps on the floor at the foot of our bed at night.
Stay tuned.
